Business Travelers Are Investigating Smaller Charters As Alternative To Higher Airline Costs, Delays

Some commercial business travelers are starting to look for alternatives to regular airline flights.

According to recent numbers put out by the Official Air Guide, air traffic in May had been cut by 22,900 flights, with commercial carriers canceling up to 15% of their routes. This means businesses are left stranded.

In addition, the Air Transport Association recently predicted that by the year's end nearly one hundred U.S. communities will be left without regular commercial air service (the figure, they suggest, will potentially double next year). In total, more than four hundred airports across the country have seen a serious reduction in services.

However, flying privately has now become a realistic option for businesses and corporations needing to travel regionally and remotely. The country's largest air charter broker, Blue Star Jets, has seen a sudden up-tick in their business travel, and is speedily responding to the objections businesses have in consistently relying on commercial's troublesome hub-and-spoke system. "With the ease of flying privately and its relative affordability," comments Blue Star Jets CEO Ricky Sitomer, "we know we are providing a much needed resource for these companies."

For example, a New York to Boston flight charted by Blue Star Jets is about $4,700 for seven people. (Rounded out, this becomes roughly the same price as a last minute commercial ticket.) This is, of course, without any airport traffic, security, "additional" costs, and the general harassment of a major airport on a weekday.

Instead, business travelers are taking advantage of point-to-point travel, maximizing their time and enjoying the benefits of an affordable private jet. And yet, without a doubt, the most underscored benefit of flying privately is the range of destinations. Private jet charters offer 5,000 destinations as opposed to a limited 500 domestic destinations accessed by commercial.

Business travel needs to be effective, and more savvy business travelers-cum-private jet passengers are finding it just that.

Popular round trip fares for a light jet (seats 7 people) around $6,000 for the following routes.

Boston - DC

AZ - Denver

San Francisco - Seattle

Atlanta - Ft. Lauderdale

Chicago - Toledo

Dallas - New Orleans
