Little Known Italian Province Becomes A New European Destination

Lidia Bastanich |
One of the most popular cooking shows on television features Lidia Bastanich who hails from the region of Italy known as the Frilili Venezia Giulia, a region once ruled by the Austrian-Hungarian empire and influenced by the Yugoslavian and Italian people who have also migrated to this area just north and east of Venice.
It is a region of rich foods, varied climates and agricultural diversity that makes for one of the most exciting, unspoiled places to visit in Europe.
As Bastanich has highlighted on her programs and will feature in this season’s shows, Frilili Venezia Giulia is expected to double the number of tourists this year as it develops its outreach.
Besides a rich architectural heritage that features eastern European as well as Italian forts, museums and other buildings, the region is developing stopping places that offer value for the dollar as well as a way of getting to know the inhabitants.
The province’s government has constructed a series of hotels that are actually built into the houses of various towns. Visitors go to a central location in these villages and choose accommodations that enable them to walk to historic buildings and restaurants.
Room service comes from local hotels and restaurants and delivered right to the dining rooms of the houses. Tourists get the feeling of living in a home while enjoying the comforts and convenience of a hotel.
