Navigation Tool Steers Visitors to Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor

The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor, a 165-mile thread through a five-county region in eastern Pennsylvania, launches a new online navigation tool to bridge together the people, places and experience of the Delaware, Lehigh and Wyoming Valleys.

The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor, a 165-mile thread through a five-county region in eastern Pennsylvania, has launched a new online navigation tool to bridge together the people, places and experience of the Delaware, Lehigh and Wyoming Valleys.

The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor's backbone is the D&L Trail. The trail, which travels through three distinct regions, Southern (Bucks County), Central (Lehigh & Northampton counties) and Northern (Luzerne & Carbon Counties), follows the 165-mile route that anthracite coal took from mine to market. A striking landscape rich in natural resources and outdoor recreation, the D&L Trail passes through charming towns and travels along remnants of the Lehigh and Delaware Canals. Using a dynamic navigation and mapping tool, The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor has connected the three regions as the path Where America was Built™. The online tool is specifically designed to enable users to zoom in on specific locations, learn trail status, identify regional sites and events, find points of interest and plan a visit to the region.

In addition to serving as an information hub, the website allows visitors to navigate based upon a desired path, according to region, specific town, or a recreational area of interest. The Your Trip feature, allows visitors to plan their itinerary with driving directions from a starting point, to each destination and back to the starting point.

Connected only by a trail that winds through northern mountains and along the banks of the Lehigh and Delaware Rivers through northeast Pennsylvania, the region is more than a series of waterways, paths and quaint towns, it's a journey through history. Now visitors can utilize www.delawareandlehigh.org to navigate and discover the ingenuity, beauty and landscape powerful enough to fuel America's Industrial Revolution.

The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor is a partnership of private groups and interested citizens, county and municipal governments, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Park Service to conserve cultural and natural resources in the five-county region of Pennsylvania that traverses the historic Delaware and Lehigh canals. Since the Delaware & Lehigh's designation by Congress in 1988, it has been a mission to restore historic places, conserve green space for public use and preserve and interpret heritage to enhance life for generations to come.
