Coinciding with Amsterdam's commemoration of Rembrandt's 400th Anniversary, The Dylan Amsterdam offers a celebration of its own, with a special "Discovering Rembrandt" package featuring accommodations, and tickets to the Rembrandt House Museum, where he lived and worked from 1639 and 1658.
Centrally located on Keizersgracht, The Dylan Amsterdam is a quick walk to the Rembrandt House Museum, as well as the city's other major attractions or guests can travel like a local with a bicycle from the hotel's fleet. In addition to Museum tickets, the "Discovering Rembrandt" package includes an overnight stay for two in a Luxury Double room and continental breakfast. The special offer is valid through December 2006 and is priced at EUR 350 for two people.
The Rembrandt House Museum hosts art exhibitions throughout 2006, including: the ongoing "Step back into Rembrandt's Age" exhibition, where visitors tour the 17th-century house where Rembrandt painted many of his masterpieces; "Rembrandt the Etcher" (July 8-Sept 3, 2006), an exhibit of the Museum's own collection of Rembrandt's etchings; and "Rembrandt & Uylenburgh, Dealing in Masterpieces" (Sept 16-Dec 10, 2006), a collection of Dutch, Italian and Flemish art bought and sold by Uylenburgh, the firm where Rembrandt oversaw the painters' workshop when he arrived to Amsterdam.
Other Rembrandt events in the city include an enormous bronze sculpture of Rembrandt's 'Night Watch' on the Rembrandtplein, where visitors can stand in the middle of sculpture and "become one" with the painting. Additionally, the world-renowned Rijksmuseum offers the 'Masterpieces' exhibit and Rembrandt's 'The Night Watch' is considered the highlight of the collection.
