Holiday Fun for Kids in Atlanta
What is it?
The Children’s Holiday Gala and the Children’s Christmas Parade, hosted by the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
Where can you find it?
The holiday season kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5 when Children’s teams up with the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) for The Children’s Holiday Gala. The $150/person event features live music, a silent auction, open bar, hors d’oeuvres and the “Festival of Trees” display, which showcases 30 decorated trees honoring Children’s patients. The trees are decorated by SCAD students. The gala will be held at SCAD, 1600 Peachtree St.
The Children’s Christmas Parade is expected to draw more than 300,000 spectators when it kicks off at 10:30 a.m. and ends around noon on Sat., Dec. 6. Considered the largest parade in the southeast, viewers will be treated to celebrity guests, performance groups, marching bands, floats, giant balloons and clowns. In its 28th year, the 1.5-mile route through downtown Atlanta begins at Peachtree Street near Baker Street.
Why should you care?
Proceeds from the events benefit the critical care units at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, a not-for-profit group that provides healthcare, research and education for children. Children’s is one of the largest clinical care providers for children in the country, and is supported by philanthropic and volunteer efforts. Information about the events and organization can be found at www.choa.org.
