'From King to Obama' Is on Display at Nobel Peace Center in Oslo, Norway
If you are heading to Northern Europe sometime during the next few months, you might want to include a visit to Oslo to view a historic exhibit on display in the Nobel Peace Center. Extending until April 11, 2010, "From King to Obama" focuses on the American civil-rights movement of the 1960s, which helped pave the way for Barack Obama's 2008 election victory.
The leading figure in the drive toward civil rights, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., was a source of inspiration to people worldwide and was the youngest (35 years old) person ever to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. The civil-rights movement slogan "Thou shall not requite violence with violence" was a main factor cited in the justification for the Norwegian Nobel Committee’s decision.
Photography is a major element of the exhibition, along with music from the 1960s. Other items on display include films, texts and historic sound recordings that embody the essence of the American experience of that era.
